14th June 2016

In the pic Junkers JU 88 A-4 that made a successful belly landing on the sandfloes at Kapp Borthen, after an attack on Allied Convoy. All 4 crew members were injured. After landing they destroyed the aircraft and marched north to base Sönak. It had happened on 14.09.1942...

The pieces of the history were left on tundra. The aircraft is still in the same place and probably will remain there for many many years.

The pictures seem to be made not long time after landing...

But I made them 2 days ago..

Now in colour. The aluminium pieces seem to be new. Just wooden propellers are destroyed and indicate the time when everything had happened.

There is still a bit glass in the windows.

The museum is open 24/7, you can come there with the dog... but it is somehow difficult to get there. There are swamps around...
It was one of my biggest dreams to see that Junkers. It became true because of some work that needed to be done close to the place. On 12th June 2016 two boats from Hornsund visited the museum.  Now for long time will be visited only by reindeers..

13th June 2016

So.. we needed to help Piotr to transport food and some basic stuff to Wroclaw Summer Station- Verenhus. Of course it was heavy to take all rucksacks and it took some time, but Trorellbreen the glacier that is close to Wroclaw Station has awarded our efforts.
It is majestic to be in front of a huge wall of ice that is much older than our european cultures and our problems. It is tremendous and somehow sad spectacle to see the glacier calving.
We were as well on the way to Kapp Borthen, other amazing place, but I need to dedicate other post for it:)

11th June 2016

Two days ago, enjoying last moments at Hornsund with Harpa and Brzydal we went walking/ running to one of the trapper houses,  Hyttevika. It is about 15 km far away but because of sometimes very wet tundra, lakes and rocks we probably did about 20 km. Amazing experience and somehow difficult since the dogs were interested in everything that lives or ever lived on tundra from hundreds of reindeers and birds to animal bones and rest of eggs. Even if Harpa is 6 months and Brzydal about 11 years old they are very strong. I had the pain in my joins for 2 days:) The weather was fantastic, a bit windy but mainly sunny. We spent wonderful time. We come back next day on Jarek's boat.
It was new and extreme experience for Brzydal. He wanted to appear good but his head was shaking a lot. Harpa did it very well:) I upload some pics from our adventure. There will be a lot of photos with dogs :D Sorry..
